Essay Request Coming Through! [Oct. 10th, 2007|07:36 pm]

[mood |busybusy]

I apologize if I'm doing anything wrong by posting this here. I'm in the process of writing a paper where I define 'goth'. I've been told to use two reliable sources, but that the points I discuss are all my ideas. Simply using the two sources to support my ideas, I guess. I'm hoping to write on:
  • music
  • fashion
I am also in need of a third point. Where I am struggling most is how to focus down those broad points into something manageable. I'm really in need of the help.

Most of all, the reliable sources are the stumbling blocks. Books, websites that are sure to be right, whatever could be given. I must say this, though. Wikipedia is not an option.

I thank all of you again, both for any help you might bring, as well as allowing me this space.

Yep, met him through Richard in Birmingham, then personally and better a few years back at an arty event at the Victoria and Albert museum.

He's a great chap :)

As a friend of mine said to Wayne Hussey at a Mission gig when I got backstage (and had a great chat with the keyboard player about mortgages...rocj and roll!) "Libby knows everybody...but he said it as if it was a rude way and I was not impressed!

That is really quite amazing. I don't expect to ever know the folks personally, but just knowing you helps me feel a wee bit more cultured and connected to the past.
If I ever get the chance, I'd love to just sit back and get my brain in the present as well as the past. I keep reading and listening to groups and authors who I'll never meet. Gotta get that setup right. Well, that and I need to get back around to what my interest in books was, before I felt the floor drop out, when I finally felt 'at home', as it were.
That friend sounds like he deserves a swift backhand to the head. Heck, if I was in Europe and could fit the student role, I'd be honored just to know someone who's so connected to the past and the present.

The bands and the people are just people at the end of the day, with thier own frailties, not anything too great. Pete Murphy is apparantly one of the most unpleasent people around.

I'd far rather know some of my real heroes personally, the people who have actually changed my life, people like the women that got us the vote, the writers that changed the world...

Though come to think of it my real heroes are the ones closer to home...my father, the councillor that brought me back to sanity, Glen...not some bloke in a band that I like!

I've met people, but they're just people, some are incredible people - like Dax for example who is so much more than her music - but most of the 'celebrities' I've come across are just rather up themselves! (Not Paul of course if he reads this ;)

Wayne Hussey thought my friend's comment was funny, and so did I, but Wayne was just a bit annoyed I'd forgotten to bring some flapjack.

Aye, I'll agree that they're just people, but I have that same feeling towards excellent craftworkers, or teachers, even some of my dead relatives.

Glen sounds like an all-around good guy, but I can see how some folks aren't so nice. I think it's not even fame that makes it. It's just in their minds. Yeah...I've heard Gaiman is nice, though.

Wayne wanted a pancake?
